Color Research & Application – The Influence of the Colour Group Michael R. Pointer
This presentation reviews the historical development of colour science and highlights the influential role of the Colour Group (Great Britain) in shaping research, standards, and international collaboration. Beginning with the early work of the International Photometric Commission and the formation of the CIE, it traces the establishment of fundamental colour measurement systems and the emergence of organised colour research in the UK. The talk examines the founding of the Colour Group during the 1940s, its close links with industry and academia, and its contributions to reports, meetings, and international initiatives. Particular attention is given to the creation and continuing impact of the journal Color Research & Application, illustrating the Group’s lasting global influence on colour science and practice.
